Remember when you were a kid and bought the cereal just for the prize. I pretty much do the exact same thing now…but with stamps. I will purchase an entire stamp set, just for one image or sentiment. That’s how it went down with this set from My Favorite Things Stamps. I have no self control when it comes to clever little sentiments.
With that stamp set in my hot little hand, I went to town on a simple notebook valentine that you can definitely recreate yourself.
{1} MFTStamps Woodgrain Background Stamp (I prefer to mount my large background stamps onto the Fiskars Stamp Press. It’s great for even pressure and an even, crisp impression).
{2} Text-weight paper cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″
{3} MFT Stamps Wood You Be Mine Stamp Set
{4} Kraft cardstock cut to 5.5″ x 11″
{5} Heart Die
{6} Red Glitter paper which you can create yourself using the technique in this post.
{7} Foam brush
{8} Bookbinding glue or Elmer’s Glue
{9} Martha Stewart scoring tool (not pictured)
{1} Score kraft cardstock at 4.25″ and 4.5″
{2} Add ink of your choice to the woodgrain background stamp
{3} Stamp onto kraft cardstock – you’ll need to do this twice in order to cover the piece of cardstock in the woodgrain pattern.
{4} Fold cardstock as shown then insert text weight paper to see how many sheets are necessary to fill the spine of the cardstock.
{5} At this point, you’ll want to bind your text weight paper with glue. Click below to take a look at a video that gives you clear details on how this is done.
{5} While your perfect binding is drying, you can complete the cover. Trim away any excess cardstock that extends beyond the edge of the book cover and die cut a heart from the front of the book cover.
{6} Adhere the glitter cardstock behind the heart cut out.
As cute as these are for Valentine’s Day, you may not have all the tools on hand for tomorrow’s big day. Truth is, I think this design can work year round! You may want to switch out the tag but other than that, glitter and woodgrain are perfect for every occasion.
