Easy Like Sunday Morning: No. 22

You know that saying about a “bull in a china shop?” – yeah…pretty sure I’m the reason for that saying. When I was about six years old, my mom took me into a china shop – as you can see, that’s where things were already going terribly wrong. Being six, I had no real grasp of my limbs or what to do with them or how to appropriately control them – and at some point I flung my arm around and shattered a snow globe. We left that china shop. I still avoid that china shop – and I’m sure they appreciate it.

Ever since then, I have a slight anxiety about snow globes. I don’t own any and am very cautious when I see them. I suppose we can consider today’s post my therapeutic way of tackling my fear. Luckily these snow globes are easy to make, easy to replace – so the stakes are low.

Before we proceed, I have to tell you. I totally did not invent this idea – but I will take credit for making it with materials that are readily available at Amazon or your local craft store. When I saw THIS project, I immediately loved it! So clever, right? There are already approximately 10 grillion ways to top a mason jar and I love how unique this topper is -and I really love how easy this version is to create. You can snag everything you need without much trouble at all.

I’m back at it with my circle cutter for this project along with a few other goodies that you may want to purchase:

  • Plastic Ornaments: I scooped up a package of these from Amazon for less than a dollar each. You’ll wanna be sure to get the 70mm ones, since they are the best fit for mason jar tops. I also have another ornament project planned that works with this same size. So stock up!
  • Gem-Tac Glue: For this project, I really like this glue since it dries completely clear and it creates a strong bond with the plastic.
  • Miniatures: I purchased my miniatures from Michael’s Craft Store. You can also find them at other craft stores like Hobby Lobby.

Snow Globe Mason Jar Topper | Damask Love{1} First, use a pair of good scissors to cut the wooden base of the miniature Christmas tree. You’ll also want to trim the hanging loop off the half of the ornament that we will be using the create the snow globe topper.

{2} Use the circle cutter to create a 2 3/4″ circle from white cardstock

{3} Hot glue the miniatures onto the circle

{4} Turn the ornament half upside down and will with a little fake snow – not much – maybe 2 tablespoons.

{5} Run a thin line of Gem-Tac glue around the perimeter of the white cardstock circle.

{6} With the ornament half, still upside-down, place the cardstock circle as shown so that the glue meets the edges of the ornament. The reason for this step is so that the fake snow does not get stuck to any Gem Tac glue that is exposed. Let the snow globe dry in this position until the Gem-Tac glue is no longer tacky…about 60 minutes or so…overnight is even better.

Snow Globe Mason Jar Topper | Damask LoveIsn’t this such a great way to package up gifts! Even when the mason jar is empty, it’s a great decorative piece that can be filled up again and again.

Love these! I purchased the kit from PTI as soon as I saw Betsy’s post. Love that I can get more globes from Amazon. And at that price and the fact that you only need half of the globe; it works out to be less than. 42¢ each! Love that! Thanks Amber.
