I’ve never really been one for leprechauns and four-leaf clovers, so when St. Patrick’s Day rolls around I usually do one of two things: ignore it and jump into Easter decor or figure out the most stylish was possible to celebrate rainbows and gold. Today’s post may be the ultimate combination of rainbows and gold glitter. When you learn how to make your own rainbow tote, you’ll be carrying it with pride well after March 17th.
To give you all the necessary tips and tricks, I decided to create video tutorial that walks you through each step! Once you’ve watched the video, be sure to keep scrolling to read a few tips on how to make your tote bag shine!
SUPPLY LIST
- Canvas Tote Bag
- Rainbow Nylon Webbing Strap, I found mine at my local JOANN stores
- Gold Glitter
- DecoArt Satin Decou-Page
- Foam Brushes
- Painter’s Tape
- DecoArt Matte Metallic Paint in Gold
TIP: Brush on 3-4 layers of the glitter & decoupage mix to get a thick, bold layer of glitter on your tote! Allow 4-5 minutes of dry time between layers.
TIP: Run a bead of glue along the raw edges of the nylon straps. This will help avoid fraying.

Hi Amber, you forgot to add the other liquid you used to mix with the gold paint , to the “materials used” list. :)….LOVE this
Oops! Thanks for the heads up.Just added it in!
Does the glitter flake off? Or is it pretty well adhered? Most of the glitter tote bags I’ve seen end up shedding a lot of the glitter every time you touch it.
No flaking!! The Mod Podge mix makes it a very smooth, glittery finish so you don’t have to worry about glitter floating away onto your clothing.
