I love it when I can take a papercrafting idea and transform it into a completely different type of project.

Today’s project is inspired by the many handmade cards that feature beautiful bows. Bows are not really my go-to accent for cardmaking, but I have found another place where a bow is the perfect accent….SHOES!!

My love of shoes is right up there with my love of crafts. Just like my craft supplies, I own way too many shoes. Currently, I am using portions of my TV unit as shoe storage – kind of like that episode of Sex & The City where Carrie is using her oven as a closet.

Today’s project is SUPER SIMPLE and you are gonna love the outcome!

In the spirit of full disclosure, I should also let you know that this is a no-sew project, simply because I have no idea how to sew…with a machine that is (I should note that sewing lessons are at the top of my list for 2011 – just haven’t gotten there yet!).

I can hand-sew in emergencies, but even that is not very good. For today’s project my go to adhesive is Fabri-Tac. It’s a permanent, washable, fabric adhesive that is totally my excuse for not knowing how to use a sewing machine.
I am pretty sure I could construct a red carpet gown with Fabri-Tac – full length with ruffles. I am a master with this stuff. So if you are like me and don’t know the first thing about sewing – this project is for you!

With all that blabbing out of the way – here’s the project.

I started with a piece of fabric, two small rectangles of batting and a shoeclip. I chose this fun satin gingham pattern, which was 40% off at Joanns!

**You will actually need two sets of these materials, since you’ll be making a pair**

Next up, you’ll use your Fabri-Tac to make a cute little burrito (for lack of a better term)  with the batting and fabric.

Two:

Three:

Four:
and done!
OK! Fabric Burrito is done! Time to cutesiefy this project.

I simply tied a piece of black satin ribbon around the middle to cinch the burrito… and voila! I love how the batting adds some floofy-poofy girliness to the bow
And from the back…

Next I did some hand-sewing to attach the shoe-clip and then covered up my terrible sewing with a strip of PTI True Black felt.

Here they are as a pair!

Now just clip these babies on any of your shoes to add a little fun & flair. I clipped mine on a pair of boring black pumps – not so boring anymore!!

And how about a  little double duty for these? Just take one bow and clip it to a headband!

And of course there needs to be some cute packaging for these- that’s the the Damask Love way of doing things!
I repurposed one of my PTI clear stamp boxes to make customized packaging.
I mounted the bows on a 6×6 piece of chipboard which I covered with bright pink polka dot paper – so fun!

And I must be honest – as much as love this packaging for gift giving…I think I’m keeping these cuties for myself!!

Hope you enjoyed this simple project. It’s a great way to bring new life to your shoes!

Thanks for stopping by for some Damask Love!

  1. How adorable! What a cute and impressive gift (even if you do keep them *wink). They really do make those pumps to die for. Great project but one quick question… where do you get the clips?

I have a pair of shoes just begging for some bows.
