Did you see it?! Have you read it? Are you as excited as me?
The answer to all these questions is probably “no” and you’re probably wondering what the heck I’m talking about, right?! Well, if you turn to page 70 of the April issue of HGTV magazine, you’ll see exactly what all the hubbub is about. I’m featured along with this project from the archives. It’s one of my favorite DIYs and I’m pretty pumped that the HGTV peeps loved it too. I’m bringing back the wooden bracelet crafts today with the perfect project to bring some much needed springtime colors to your desktop.
These fruity wooden bracelet trinket boxes are very similar to these trinket boxes. The technique is the same, just a few tweaks to the colors and embellishments. Let me show you how it’s done.
To make a pineapple trinket box, you’ll need:
- a wooden bracelet. For this project I used THIS bracelet (but for the tutorial photos you’ll notice that I use THIS bracelet. Either design will work great for this project)
- hot glue gun
- clay tools
- Sculpey polymer clay
- craft paint
- concentric circle cookie cutters
- foam brushes
- a white paint marker
Roll out the white clay using a clay roller tool
Use the wooden bracelet as a cookie cutter to cut the white clay. This will give you a circle of clay that perfectly fits the inside of the wooden bracelet. Bake this piece of clay according to package instructions.
Paint the wooden bracelet with yellow colored craft paint
Use a white paint marker to draw a cross hatch pattern on the outside of the painted bracelet
Place the baked white clay circle inside the bottom of the bracelet and use a hot glue gun to adhere it to the inside of the bracelet
Grab two cookie cutters. The larger circle cookie cutter should be roughly the same size as the outer diameter of the wooden bracelet. The smaller circle cookie cutter should be the inner diameter of the wooden bracelet..
Cut these shapes from white clay then bake according to package instructions. Once baked and cooled, use a hot glue gun to glue the pieces together as shown.
Use the cutting tool to cut out a pineapple top. Bake this shape and allow it to cool. Once cooled, adhere it to the top of the lid.
HOW TO MAKE A WATERMELON TRINKET BOX
To create the watermelon, use the same basic tutorial shown above. Paint the outside pink and add black seeds with a toothpick dipped into black paint. For the lid, use green clay then add bright green stripes with nail polish or craft paint.
HOW TO MAKE AN ORANGE TRINKET BOX
To create an orange, follow the basic tutorial. Paint the outside of the bracelet with orange craft paint. For the lid, use orange clay and add a green leaf cut from green polymer clay.
