My Creative Journey – Money and all!

For lots of us, the term “financial advisor” feels like it’s reserved for wealthy people. The kind of service you use when you’re planning to buy a yacht or invest thousands of dollars in complicated stocks. Welp, turns out that doesn’t have to be the case, and Facet is changing the conversation around our finances and how we manage them. Before we dive into the nitty gritty of Facet, though…let me tell you a little story.

Before I started Damask Love, I was working as a child psychologist. I made $45,000 a year in that position, and every month I had to pay a huge chunk of my check toward student loans. There also wasn’t a great prospect of salary increase. It was a frustrating situation (to say the least) and my relationship with my bank account was not the best. I didn’t have the extra cash to do the little fun things I wanted to do, and I often overspent anyway…feeling like there was no way to get out of the rut.

While I worked as a psychologist, I started a blog as a hobby, but soon that hobby turned into a side hustle. Unlike my full-time job, my side hustle showed some promise for being lucrative in the long run. So I was especially encouraged when I got my first big offer: A yarn company offered me $18,000 for 6 blog posts. I was floored. I didn’t know that kind of money could exist in the world of a crafting blogger. Shortly thereafter, another company (whom I still work with to this day!) offered $36K for a year of various content deliverables. All in all, I quickly learned that I could make more as a blogger than I could as a psychologist…and I was SO passionate about being creative that I decided to give crafting a try.

Early Damask Love! 2014 to be exact. My hair was having a moment and those eyebrows! YEESH!! Although I do miss that blue skirt and gingham top!

The one problem, though, was that I still had that same mindset from when I was working as a psychologist. I had no clue how to best allocate my money now that I was a new business owner. Along with the business came new expenses like supplies, studio space and travel. Also, new practices, like invoices and quarterly tax payments.

At the time, I figured it all out with the help of family and friends, but it would have been GREAT to have a service like Facet. Facet Wealth is redefining financial planning. It’s approachable, personalized advice with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional (the gold standard in the industry), who offers insights and advice about everything your money touches. Even down to small financial goals like a shopping day with friends or how to budget for more meals out.

One of the projects I created for that first $18K deal!

WHY USE FACET FOR FINANCIAL PLANNING?

With Facet, you don’t need hundreds of thousands in assets to get started. The minimum assets required to get started with Facet? $0. Also, your CFP® professional will use jargon-free advice for everything money-related in your life and help you execute your most important goals. Maybe you want to shift careers. Maybe you want to buy a car or house. Maybe you want to know the basics of getting started with investment. All of these are realistic goals achievable with your Facet planner.

Currently, I’m hoping to bring on another employee at Damask Love and, for me, this is the most important topic to discuss with my Facet planner.

After I saved enough money, I was able to move into my first big studio and take better photos and video!

HOW MUCH DOES FACET COST?

Facet is offered as a subscription. Just like all the other necessities in your life! Movies & chill, anyone?! Unlike other financial advisors, Facet charges on a quarterly or yearly basis based on client needs…not how much money they have to invest (learn more about Facet’s affordable fixed fee here).

All in all, Facet is a service that works for pretty much anyone, because money touches every part of our lives, right?! So if you’re ready to join the Facet fam, head over now and get 2 months FREE when you sign up at facetwealth.com/damasklove and start making money moves!

You can also go HERE and HERE to watch two fun videos I created in partnership with Facet! #FacetPartner

These days I’m still in the same studio space and loving every minute of growing Damask Love into a destination for creativity and inspiration!

Keep on crafting with these other posts

I’d like to share this is not any kind of advertisement.

This is just a genuine personal story that I chose to
share because it might help someone. Should you be fighting with gambling or
even beginning to feel like it’s becoming a problem, don’t scroll away just yet.

I became someone who thought occasional gambling couldn’t hurt.
Initially, it felt like harmless fun—a blackjack game after
    work—nothing serious. Eventually, it spiraled.
Suddenly, I was gambling daily. Sure, there were wins, but they just made it deeper.
I kept trying to recreate that high. One weekend, I lost nearly [insert loss amount here, e.g., “$2,000”] in less
than two days. That was my savings. And still,
I went back the next day.
What’s worse is how I started hiding things—my friends.
I was embarrassed, and yet I couldn’t walk away. If you’re there now,
    you know what I mean.
Then I came across this article—and I’m not
promoting it—but it changed everything for me. I’m not claiming it’s a one-size-fits-all answer, but it
made me wake up I was in.
The article didn’t preach. It just spoke honestly in a way I’d never heard before.
It explained how gambling is a psychological and financial trap,
and how everything about it is built to make you lose.
Reading that article, I realized that I had a problem. And more importantly, that I could stop.

It gave me ideas that helped me take the initial
    move towards quitting.
Since then, I’ve deleted every betting app I ever
had. I’ve talked to my partner. It’s not easy. It’s still a fight sometimes.
    But I’m getting better.
If any of this sounds like your life, then go find that piece.

This is just a real personal story that
I decided to share because someone might need it. If
you’re fighting with gambling or even beginning to feel like it’s becoming a problem, please keep reading.

I was someone who thought a quick flutter couldn’t hurt.

It started harmlessly—a few sports bets with friends—nothing serious.
But, it turned into something darker.
Before I knew it, I was gambling daily. Occasionally,
I won, but those wins just made it deeper.
I kept chasing that high. One weekend, I blew through nearly
[insert loss amount here, e.g., “$2,000”] in less than two days.
That was my savings. And still, I went back the next day.

What’s worse is how I began lying—my family. I was completely disgusted with myself,
and yet I couldn’t walk away. If that sounds
familiar, you know what I mean.
    Then I came across a particular article—and I’m not promoting it—but
it made me stop and really think. I’m not saying it’s a one-size-fits-all answer, but it made
me wake up I was in.
The article didn’t preach. It just spoke honestly in a way I’d never understood before.
It explained how gambling is more than just a bad hobby, and how you’re playing against odds you can’t beat.

That night, I finally admitted to myself that I had a problem.
And more importantly, that I needed to stop. It gave me ideas that helped
me take the initial move towards reclaiming my life.

Since then, I’ve been clean for X months. I’ve joined a support group.

It’s not easy. It’s still a fight sometimes.

    But I’m getting better.
If you’re reading this and nodding along, then please read that article.

Let me begin by stating this is by no means any kind of marketing post.
This is just a real personal story that I
chose to share because others may be going through the same thing.
In case you’re struggling with gambling or even just starting to see the warning signs, please keep
    reading.
I was someone who thought a quick flutter couldn’t

    Eventually, it got worse.
Without realizing, I was placing bets every night.

Sure, there were wins, but they just made it
deeper. I kept trying to recreate that high.
On a particularly bad weekend, I lost nearly [insert loss amount here, e.g., “$2,000”]
in less than two days. That was my kid’s school fees.
And still, I went back the next day.
What’s worse is how I started hiding things—my friends.
I was embarrassed, and yet I felt trapped. If you’re there now, you know what I mean.
    Then I came across a particular article—and
I’m not promoting it—but it shifted my perspective.
I’m not trying to convince you that it’s a one-size-fits-all answer, but it made me recognize the trap I was in.
The article wasn’t judgmental. It just broke down the cycle of gambling in a way I’d never
understood before. It explained how gambling is not just a habit, and how you’re playing against odds you can’t beat.

Reading that article, I finally admitted to myself that I had a problem.
And more importantly, that I could stop. It gave me insight that helped me take
the hardest step towards getting clean.
Since then, I’ve not gambled once. I’ve joined a support group.

It’s not easy. It’s still a fight sometimes. But I’m winning.

If gambling is hurting you, then take the time to read it.
