My Creative Journey – Money and all!

For lots of us, the term “financial advisor” feels like it’s reserved for wealthy people. The kind of service you use when you’re planning to buy a yacht or invest thousands of dollars in complicated stocks. Welp, turns out that doesn’t have to be the case, and Facet is changing the conversation around our finances and how we manage them. Before we dive into the nitty gritty of Facet, though…let me tell you a little story.

Before I started Damask Love, I was working as a child psychologist. I made $45,000 a year in that position, and every month I had to pay a huge chunk of my check toward student loans. There also wasn’t a great prospect of salary increase. It was a frustrating situation (to say the least) and my relationship with my bank account was not the best. I didn’t have the extra cash to do the little fun things I wanted to do, and I often overspent anyway…feeling like there was no way to get out of the rut.

While I worked as a psychologist, I started a blog as a hobby, but soon that hobby turned into a side hustle. Unlike my full-time job, my side hustle showed some promise for being lucrative in the long run. So I was especially encouraged when I got my first big offer: A yarn company offered me $18,000 for 6 blog posts. I was floored. I didn’t know that kind of money could exist in the world of a crafting blogger. Shortly thereafter, another company (whom I still work with to this day!) offered $36K for a year of various content deliverables. All in all, I quickly learned that I could make more as a blogger than I could as a psychologist…and I was SO passionate about being creative that I decided to give crafting a try.

Early Damask Love! 2014 to be exact. My hair was having a moment and those eyebrows! YEESH!! Although I do miss that blue skirt and gingham top!

The one problem, though, was that I still had that same mindset from when I was working as a psychologist. I had no clue how to best allocate my money now that I was a new business owner. Along with the business came new expenses like supplies, studio space and travel. Also, new practices, like invoices and quarterly tax payments.

At the time, I figured it all out with the help of family and friends, but it would have been GREAT to have a service like Facet. Facet Wealth is redefining financial planning. It’s approachable, personalized advice with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional (the gold standard in the industry), who offers insights and advice about everything your money touches. Even down to small financial goals like a shopping day with friends or how to budget for more meals out.

One of the projects I created for that first $18K deal!

WHY USE FACET FOR FINANCIAL PLANNING?

With Facet, you don’t need hundreds of thousands in assets to get started. The minimum assets required to get started with Facet? $0. Also, your CFP® professional will use jargon-free advice for everything money-related in your life and help you execute your most important goals. Maybe you want to shift careers. Maybe you want to buy a car or house. Maybe you want to know the basics of getting started with investment. All of these are realistic goals achievable with your Facet planner.

Currently, I’m hoping to bring on another employee at Damask Love and, for me, this is the most important topic to discuss with my Facet planner.

After I saved enough money, I was able to move into my first big studio and take better photos and video!

HOW MUCH DOES FACET COST?

Facet is offered as a subscription. Just like all the other necessities in your life! Movies & chill, anyone?! Unlike other financial advisors, Facet charges on a quarterly or yearly basis based on client needs…not how much money they have to invest (learn more about Facet’s affordable fixed fee here).

All in all, Facet is a service that works for pretty much anyone, because money touches every part of our lives, right?! So if you’re ready to join the Facet fam, head over now and get 2 months FREE when you sign up at facetwealth.com/damasklove and start making money moves!

You can also go HERE and HERE to watch two fun videos I created in partnership with Facet! #FacetPartner

These days I’m still in the same studio space and loving every minute of growing Damask Love into a destination for creativity and inspiration!

Keep on crafting with these other posts

I’d like to begin by stating this isn’t any kind of
promotion. This is just a real personal story that I felt to share because
others may be going through the same thing. Should you be
struggling with gambling or even noticing things getting out of hand,
    please keep reading.
I used to be someone who thought a little bet here and there couldn’t
hurt. Initially, it felt like harmless fun—a few sports bets with friends—nothing serious.
    Eventually, it spiraled.
Before I knew it, I was placing bets every night. Occasionally, I won, but they just made it deeper.
I kept chasing that high. On a particularly bad weekend,
I blew through nearly [insert loss amount here, e.g., “$2,000”]
in less than two days. That was rent money.
    And still, I couldn’t stop.
What’s worse is how much I lied—my family. I was embarrassed, and yet I
felt trapped. If you’re there now, you know what I mean.
Then I came across something I randomly clicked on—and this isn’t an ad—but it changed everything for me.
I’m not saying it’s a magical solution, but it made me see what I was doing I
    was in.
The article didn’t preach. It just laid out the truth in a way
I’d never heard before. It explained how gambling is more than just a bad hobby, and how everything about it
is built to make you lose.
Reading that article, I realized that I had a
problem. And more importantly, that I needed
to stop. It gave me ideas that helped me take the first real step towards quitting.

Since then, I’ve been clean for X months. I’ve started being honest again. It’s not easy.

On the hunt for an Exotic Shorthair cat in the KC metro area?
You’ve come to the perfect spot. This detailed guide will walk
you through everything you need to know to find and bring home a happy and healthy cat friend.
From learning about the breed’s characteristics to finding
trustworthy breeders and adoption centers, we’ll cover all the
essentials. Whether you’re a new cat parent or
a seasoned cat lover, you’ll find this article invaluable.
    Meet the Exotic Shorthair Breed
The Exotic Shorthair is often fondly called “the easy-going Persian.”
This moniker is aptly given. They were developed in the 1950s by crossing American Shorthairs with Persians, with
the goal of creating a cat that had the gentle, docile temperament of the Persian but with a short, dense, easy-to-maintain coat.
The result was a lovely and placid breed that quickly won hearts.

Defining features of the Exotic cat include:
A plush, dense coat that feels like a teddy bear.

A broad, rounded face with small, rounded ears.

Big, round eyes that are often described as ‘saucer-like’.

    A pushed-in, short muzzle.
A cobby body with strong, short limbs.
    A quiet, melodious meow.
    Temperament
The personality of the Exotic Shorthair is arguably its most appealing trait.
    They are known for being:
    Calm and placid.
They love to lounge around and are less active than many other
    breeds.
Affectionate and loyal. They form strong bonds with their owners and love to cuddle.

Quiet and low-key. They don’t demand a lot of attention but will happily accept it when offered.

Tolerant of kids and other animals.
Their calm disposition makes them a great fit for family homes.

Playful, but not hyper. They like to play but are just as content to nap on the sofa.

Finding a Reputable Exotic Shorthair Breeder in Kansas City
When you decide to purchase a purebred cat, the single most important thing is to find a trustworthy
and responsible breeder. A good breeder prioritizes the health
and well-being of their cats, ensures proper socialization, and offers
    health guarantees and medical records.
Key indicators of a good breeder:
Membership in a cat fancy association like The
Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) or The International Cat Association (TICA).

This shows a commitment to breed standards and ethics.

Allowing you to see their facility. A good breeder will be happy to show you where their cats live.
The breeding area should be sanitary and tidy.

Genetic testing. They should provide proof that the parent cats have been screened for common genetic health
issues like Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).

Detailed health contracts. They should offer a contract
that outlines the health of the kitten and their policy
    on health problems.
Kitten age. Kittens should not leave their mother before they are at least 12 weeks old.
This gives them time to develop social skills.
Testimonials. Ask for references from other people who
    have bought kittens.
The breeder screens you. A responsible breeder will be just
as interested in you if you are a good home for their cat as you are in them.

We can’t recommend specific breeders directly, you can use
the official CFA or TICA sites to search for registered catteries in the Kansas City area.
You can also go to cat shows in the region to meet breeders
    in person.
Adopting an Exotic Shorthair from a Rescue in Kansas City
Adopting a cat is a beautiful and fulfilling path. While finding a true Exotic Shorthair in a standard animal
shelter can be challenging, it’s not impossible. Many purebreds end up in shelters or rescues due
to unforeseen events like an changes in a family’s life.
Here’s how to increase your chances of finding an Exotic Shorthair for adoption:
Look at shelters in KC. Keep an eye on the websites of places such as the KC Pet
Project, Wayside Waifs, or other local rescue groups.

Contact breed-specific rescue organizations. There are
rescues dedicated to finding homes for Persians
    and Exotics.
Searching online for “Exotic Shorthair rescue” will give you options.

Set up alerts. Many adoption websites allow you to set up email alerts for certain types of cats.

Network with breeders. Sometimes, breeders will have an older cat or a retired breeding cat that they are looking to rehome.

    Budgeting for Your Exotic Shorthair
The cost of an Exotic Shorthair kitten can fluctuate significantly based on the breeder’s reputation, the kitten’s bloodline,
and whether it’s for show or for pet.
From a reputable breeder, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,500 to over
$3,000 for a kitten with pet rights.
Adoption fees from a rescue organization are much more affordable,
typically ranging from $100 to $300. This fee
usually covers spaying/neutering, initial vaccinations, and
    a microchip.
The purchase price is not the only cost. You’ll also need to plan for:
    Food.
    Vet check-ups and routine care.
    Grooming supplies.
    Entertainment.
    Litter and litter boxes.
A way to transport them and a place for them to sleep.

Taking Care of Your Exotic Shorthair
One of the main appeals of the Exotic Shorthair is its
    low-maintenance fur.
While they don’t have the long hair of a Persian, they do need regular grooming to avoid mats and fur balls.

Grooming: A short, daily brushing session is
recommended to remove loose hair and maintain the coat’s health.
A a special brush works effectively.
Washing: They rarely need a bath, but a bath
every few months will help keep their coat shiny
    and clean.
Cleaning their face: Due to their flat face, they are susceptible to tear stains.

Wiping their face with a damp cloth or a vet-approved tear stain remover will help
keep the area clean and prevent staining.
Nail Trimming: Trim their nails regularly.
Dental Hygiene: Regular dental care is essential to maintain good oral
    health.
Common Health Issues to Be Aware Of
While generally a healthy breed, the Exotic Shorthair’s unique facial
structure makes them at risk for certain health issues.
A reputable breeder will test for these, but it’s important
for you to be aware of them.
Breathing issues: This is a group of problems that can make it difficult to breathe.
    Symptoms include noisy breathing.
Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD): This is a hereditary disease that can lead to kidney failure.

Responsible breeders will test their cats for this condition.
Eye problems: Due to their big eyes, they can be prone to issues like
epiphora (excessive tearing) and cherry eye.
Dental Disease: Their unique mouth shape can lead to oral health issues.

    The First Few Days
After you’ve located your new companion, it’s time to
    prepare for their arrival.
Cat-proof your home. Put away anything small they might eat
and secure any wires or cords.
Create a special room for them. A small, quiet room with a litter box, food, water, and a bed will help them adjust to their new
    surroundings without feeling stressed.
Take your time introducing them to other animals. Follow
a slow and gradual introduction process to avoid fights.

Establish a routine. Cats thrive on regularity.
Feeding times, play sessions, and grooming will help them feel secure.

    In Conclusion
Your journey to find an Exotic Shorthair is an a thrilling adventure.
By doing your research and being patient, you can find a wonderful cat that will bring years
of joy and companionship. Regardless of whether you adopt or buy from a breeder, an Exotic will be a delightful
and loving addition to your family. Their sweet
nature and charming looks make them a popular choice for cat
lovers in the KC area and beyond. Enjoy the process, and get ready to welcome your new best friend!

Cool blog! Is your theme custom made or did
you download it from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple
adjustements would really make my blog shine.

Allow me share this is by no means any kind of promotion. This is just a genuine personal story that I decided to share because it might help someone.
In case you’re struggling with gambling or even noticing things
getting out of hand, take a moment to read this.

I became someone who thought a quick flutter couldn’t hurt.
Initially, it felt like harmless fun—a blackjack game
    after work—nothing serious. Eventually, it
    got worse.
Suddenly, I was checking odds more than my bank balance.
I’d win sometimes, but they just made it worse. I
kept trying to recreate that high. One weekend, I lost nearly [insert loss amount here, e.g., “$2,000”]
in less than two days. That was my savings.
And still, I went back the next day.
What’s worse is how much I lied—my family. I was completely disgusted with myself, and yet I felt trapped.
If that sounds familiar, you know what I mean.
Then I came across something I randomly clicked on—and I’m not promoting it—but it
made me stop and really think. I’m not saying it’s a one-size-fits-all answer, but it made me
see what I was doing I was in.
The article didn’t preach. It just broke down the cycle of gambling in a way I’d never seen before.
It explained how gambling is not just a habit, and how everything about it is
    built to make you lose.
That night, I finally admitted to myself that I had a problem.

And more importantly, that I wanted to stop.
It gave me insight that helped me take the first real step towards reclaiming my life.

Since then, I’ve not gambled once. I’ve joined a support group.

It’s not easy. I still get the itch. But I’m staying strong.

If you’re reading this and nodding along, then go find that piece.

post. They are really convincing and can definitely work.
Still, the posts are too short for novices. May just you please lengthen them
a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
