Craftroom Crush: Papermade Paris in a Box

Craftroom Crush: Avery Elle Bonjour | Damask Love BlogWatch out Griswolds, the KG’s  are departing on a European vacay and it’s gonna be awesome!

Today, Andrew and I are taking off on a trip to Europe in celebration of our one-year anniversary! We are both majorly excited for this trip and it’s been in the works for months. Truth be told, Andrew has been doing all the planning. The joke around here is that all I need to do is pack a suitcase and follow him to Europe. That’s what I’m gonna do, and I can’t wait!

To commemorate our awesome trip, I decided that today’s Craftroom Crush was just too perfect. Avery Elle’s “Bonjour” stamp set is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been on the hunt for a macaron stamp for ages but haven’t found any that I like…until I found this one.  It only makes sense that I’d share my project using this set on the day that we set off for Paris: A Papermade Paris in a Box

It’s no secret that I love “in a box” projects. I’ve done Rustic Winter in a box, Spread the Love in a box and now …I’ve packed up the yumminess of Parisian macarons and put ’em in a …you guessed it…box.

In my boxed gift set are several elements, all created using the Bonjour stamp set…except for the cookies, of course!

One of my favorite components of this box is the notepad. This is a technique that I’ve seen many many times before, but never tried myself. I thought it would be too messy or that it wouldn’t work out. Welp – I was wrong. These notepads are crazy easy to make and there is really no mess involved.

Craftroom Crush: Avery Elle Bonjour | Damask Love Blog

{1} Notebook cover with should measure 2″ – 2 1/2″ taller than your stack of note paper sheets. I created my notebook cover with a piece of chipboard which I covered with white cardstock and stamped with a macaron pattern.

{2} Sponge brush

{3} Stack of notebook/computer text weight paper cut to your preferred size. Remember – you can have paper cut down to size at most office supply stores! It’s worth it!

{4} Binder clips and a few pieces of chipboard

{5} PVA Glue. This glue is made especially for book binding and dries to an elastic finish.

{6} Thick artboard for the backing of the notebook. I covered mine with patterned paper that coordinates with the macaron design on the cover.

Assembly couldn’t be easier!

{1} Clamp together the notebook paper pages and the back cover

{2} Apply 4-6 layers of PVA glue to the edges of the pages, allowing some time in between layers to let the glue set.

{3} not pictured: once the glue is completely dry, attach the cover by simple folding it over the top and adhering it to the back cover.

Now let’s look at the rest of the contents…

Of course there are cards! I stamped the macarons onto die cut piece of Craft-A-Board (man, I love that stuff!). This gave each cookie a little dimension on the card.

I packed it all up into a box , which of course includes something yummy to munch on. At the last minute, I decided to top off the tube of macarons with a cute sentiment from the set.

Last up – a very cute monogram medallion in lieu of a bow – and if you’re interested, there may just be a quick tutorial coming soon on how I created the scroll frame and the letter, too!

P.S. Just in case you’re wondering, Damask Love will be alive and kicking, even though I’ll be out of town. All the posts have been scheduled and will be up and ready for you to read and enjoy!

P.P.S I do not speak a lick of French. The magic of Google Translate helped with the text in today’s post. If any of it is incorrect, don’t blame me…blame google! Ha!

Saw a tute on making your own notepads but still hadn’t had a chance to give it a try. Good to know yours worked too – I never would have dreamed it possible with normal glue.
As for the macaron stamp – total agreement. The only one I’d found when searching after our fall vacay was from a French stamp co.

    Amber,
I live in Paris, if I had known you’d be coming this way I would have sent you a list of things! As it is I will give you one place to visit that has quite an awesome craft section (for France): the 5th floor of the BHV (Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville)on 52 rue de Rivoli just across the street from Paris city hall. GO!
And yes Amber, if I recognize you in the street this weekend I WILL say hi!

God bless the Europeans – in all the metropolitan areas we visited it seemed that there was enough English to get by. They always appreciated you trying to communicate with some key phrases and, out of respect, I felt we should make that effort! 🙂 While in Paris you have to visit Laduree for your macaron fix- simply wonderful! Have a great time!

You can buy a relatively inexpensive glue called padding compound in white or pink to make paper pads in one step not 4-6. Just FYI. Just google it.

Beautiful and original. This dessert definitely reminds me of Paris, I also tried macaroons in Venice during a trip with my husband. Starting from business class flights to Venice to walking around the magnificent streets of this beautiful city, it was unforgettable. It was in this city that my husband proposed to me to become his wife.
