Tis the season to be…
- eating way to much of everything
- pretending to buy gifts for other people while you’re really just using it as an excuse to shop for yourself
- receiving holiday cards from people you only sort of remember. You know, the ones you haven’t been in contact with since last year’s round of holiday cards?
This year my approach is a little different. If you get a holiday card from me it’s because we are friends. Real friends. Like in real life. And instead of just a card, I’m giving you something that you will have no choice but to hang on to for years and years to come. It’s a holiday card turned recipe card…with my face plastered to the front of it.
This year I’m calling in the help of Minted Foil Pressed Flat Cards to make some of the prettiest recipe cards you ever did lay eyes on. Instead of going the traditional holiday card route, I used the front of the card for a photo and I used the back for my very favorite hot cocoa recipe. The sturdy Minted cardstock makes this a card that will be a keepsake for years. To make the holiday recipe card a little more special, I’ve DIYed my way through some very easy gold foiled labels. The finished product is a blogger-worthy hot cocoa kit. Because bloggers love gold foil. It’s a fact.
What you’ll need:
- Patterned paper – I know you have a ton stashed away waiting to be used!
- Gold Foil – this one is what I used.
- Scor-tape or another strong double sided adhesive.
- Minted gold foil pressed card – I used the Gilded Brushstroke design. Gotta love that confetti of brushstrokes.
- Extra Large Circle Paper Punch
- Snack Bar clear stamp set from Clear & Simple Stamps
- Bone Folder – I love this Teflon one because it’s smooth and easy to handle.
- Adhere a strip of double sided tape to the patterned paper
- Cut a piece of gold foil from the roll
- Peel off the backing of the double sided tape
- Use the bone folder to firmly rub the gold foil onto the tape
- Once you’ve firmly rubbed the entire strip of tape, peel back the gold foil
- Use a circle punch to create your label
Once the labels are created, you can start stamping. For this hot cocoa kit, I labeled the marshmallows, cocoa mix and the peppermint pieces. You can go nuts with this part, since there are so many fun hot cocoa toppings and mix-ins.
The finished labels coordinate beautifully with the Gilded Brushstroke holiday cards – like they were meant to go together all along.

Every year, I put out a call on Facebook for anyone who would like a card; not enough people in my generation seem to send out real letters! They’re always personal letters and I usually try to print out an old picture of the two of us to send along as well.
Our Christmas tradition is cinnamon rolls after gifts! I have my coffee ?
We just got married in 2014, so we are having fun making new traditions! Looks like we’ll be sticking with a ‘postcard’ theme again this year – simple, fun, and a little cheaper to mail 🙂
One year I had custom Christmas cards made and I still have one because they were so precious. Now, I buy packs of cards with glitter and whimsy to mail out to friends and family.

I handmake all my Christmas cards every year. Luckily, I don’t have very many to send out so I get to spend a bit more time on them.

I have an old window that I hang all of my christmas cards on in my kitchen! I love it so much when it is all filled up with family and friends holiday cards 🙂
We generally just use a picture of the kids from a special time in the year.

No not yet. This is only our second year sending out family cards. We need to start some traditions though!
We never had a Holiday card tradition growing up, but when my sister and I were in high school we took our mom’s address book and sent cards ourselves. Friends she hadn’t been able to see for years reconnected and it was so great to see. Now that I’m older and have a family we love to send Holiday cards every year and include some of my mom’s friends as well. She still doesn’t send cards, but still has those friendships. Love this fabulous kit! Your photos crack me up! We don’t really have a Christmas card tradition. I make my own and usually send about 75 to family, friends, military friends (my son is active duty so I know lots of Army folks), and fellow crafters. I have tried in the past to make each one individual and unique but quickly gave up on that. While I still try to make quite a few unique ones when I do make a card I try to make 2 or 4 of that same card before moving on to the next one. Cuts down on the creative process at a very busy and stressful time of year.
My hubby write a poem and I take the photos. We love Holiday cards!

We have been color coordinating for our Christmas cards
We always take our Christmas card photos with the same lady in November. No other traditions though!
We try to send them out, but don’t always succeed. I love receiving them from others and taping them to the kitchen cabinets!
