It’s not like I’ve ever had too much to drink. No. That’s probably never happened.
Now, if that HAD ever happened, it would go a little something like this:
Beverage #1: “I feel tipsy in my knees.” I’ve been known to say this on occasion. My husband insists that it’s ridiculous and makes no sense. Til the day I die, I will insist that there must be something about alcohol that makes a bee-line for your kneecaps.
Beverage #2: Two sheets. Wind. You know what I mean. I’m a lightweight so two is really all I need.
Beverage #3: This is when the showtunes start. When I’ve had a few, I have a habit of taking showtune requests. West Side Story is a go-to, but I’ll never turn down a little Phantom. If I happen to be in an establishment that has a band, it’s very likely that I will take one of their instruments. Last time this happened, I grabbed the tambourine. I play a mean tambourine. Not really.
Beverage #4: Beer. Best case scenario is that I’m tucked in my bed at this point, but if I’m still awake, there’s a chance I’ll start requesting beer. Because by #4, who really cares what you’re sipping anymore, right? Truth is, I hate beer. It’s gross. It smells like feet and it tastes like old coffee grounds marinated with…uh…feet. As far as I’m concerned, beer is good for one thing: sitting atop beautiful handmade “leather” coasters…and you are going to need a drink after you see how these faux leather coasters are made. It’s that awesome.
{1} Roll out your clay to 1/4″ thick
{2} Cut with the circle cookie cutter
{3} Place the stitched circle die. Note: If you have a tough time getting the stitched circle centered, you can do this step first, and then cut the circle with the cookie cutter.
{4} Press the monogram stamp into the center of the circle. You’ll need to press firmly to get a good impression.
Not Shown – after Step 4, you’ll bake the polymer clay in a 275 degree oven for approximately 30 minutes. Allow the coaster to cool before moving to Step 5.
{5} Dab a foam brush into the black chalkboard paint…
{6} …then brush chalkboard paint over the entire surface of the coaster and IMMEDIATELY wipe it away with the cloth. This will create a distressed leather look on the brown clay. You may want to repeat the paint & wipe step to achieve a more distressed look. Up to you!
This is an awesome project! I love that it is masculine and yet crafty – great tutorial!
Thanks Amber! I totally get the drink thing. I don’t the taste of alcohol at all so I could imagine me singing ‘Bride and Prejudice’ songs. I love Bollywood. I also bookmarked the idea for this Father’s Day gifts. 🙂 You’re the best.
Where do you come up with all those wonderful ideas. You are one of the most talented and original crafters I read.
Thank you for everything.
Excellent idea!
I totally thought these were leather! Ah-mazing, Amber! 🙂
Great project. Thanks for sharing.
OMGee!!! I was ROFLMBO!!!! I think you and I may be related by these scenarios!!! way too funny and this is so me!! and I LOVE these coasters!!! WOW!! gotta make a set or 3!! thanks for sharing!!!
these are really lovely Amber. Really beautiful faux leather look. as far as the drinking – definitely a 2 drink minimum here too LOL but my show tunes start then. We’re partial to Les Mis & Gypsy (Sondheim is a must so West Side Story is a fav)- have a good one!
Amber, you are a hoot. And exponentially creative! Where did you get the coaster holder?
LMHO, too funny, Amber. Remember, a lot of us have heard you sing….so lady, any rendition by you is probably most delightful (even under the influence of said alcohol).
LOVE the coasters, so clever 🙂
Wow!!! This is a great technique. TFS 😉
LOL! I know just what you mean, cheese tastes like feet too but don’t thin that you’ll ever catch me nibbling on anyone’s toes!
These are fabulous! I can’t believe how real they look!
thank you so much for sharing this!! my dies and cookie cutters came in the mail TODAY!! can’t wait to make these!
