Neutral shades meet glittery sparkle once again in today’s issue of Style Watch!
I created a set of four cards, using a really simple technique that turns flat star dies into beautiful dimensional faceted stars. At the end of this post, I have a video that will walk you through the “how-to” and give you another idea for using this design for packaging.
For the cards, I used my Clear & Simple Stamps Star Die Collection, and followed these steps:
1) Die cut one star from glitter wrapping paper and follow video tutorial to create a faceted star
2) Adhere the faceted star to the front of an A2 kraft cardbase
3) Die cut another star from a layer of kraft cardstock. Size of die cut should be one size smaller than the faceted star.
4) Adhere the kraft cardstock layer to the cardfront using dimensional adhesive.
For the sentiments on this card set, I used the recently announced Limited Edition: Joy stamp set. The set includes tons of options for mixing and matching to create the perfect sentiment…not only for the holidays but for the whole year round. Gotta love versatility, right?
And because I have an obsession with packaging…
I wrapped the set up in one of my card boxes and created some dimensional stars as tassels on a bit of twine. Take a look at the video if you’d like to see how these are made.

Oh WOW !!! Simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Don’t ya just love stars. I do all year round. These are really simply and gorgeous. Thank you for the tutorial.
Marvelous ides – the cards and packaging are beautiful 🙂
Thanks for making it so simple. Great tip with the painters tape.
Love these sparkly stars!
Wow, what a simple idea and such a gorgeous result!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these cards. But . . . I got confused when I tried to make them. Shouldn’t the faceted star be the larger one instead of the other way around? Or maybe I’m misreading the instructions? Also, how did you adhere the faceted star to the card?
ACK!!! Jeanie, you are totally correct! Thanks for letting me know! I love having such great readers who actually try out these projects and let me know how they work out (or in this case how they don’t work out!) I’ve updated the instructions and I hope you’ll forgive my mistake! I owe you a sheet of cardstock to replace the one you wasted on my terrible instructions! As for adhering the first star, I used a small line of glue around the edge just like in the video. Simple as that!
Fabulous!! I love the cards and the look you created. Adding the layer of cardstock over the star gives it a wonderful finish! Thanks, Amber.
I’m going to try this with some glittered cardstock and Sizzix star dies! Great tutorial, too! Love the tip about the painter’s tape.
Brilliant tutorial, thank you so much! 🙂

And to think I just bought a die to do this – ugh! Thanks for the video, and thanks for making it look so easy!
Awesome tutorial! TFS
Oh WOW, wow, WOW, I’m in love with this technique, and what you’ve done with it. Super cards! And having a layer on top of them is brilliant! I played around with this and came up with some others. Here’s a link if you’re interested: http://notablenest.blogspot.com/2012/12/seeing-barn-stars.html
