Last week I asked my Facebook followers to describe the images that come to mind when I mention “Rustic Winter.” Today, I’m excited to share the reason for my curiosity!
Today, I’m a guest blogger on This Heart Of Mine where Amy is rolling out her Winter Wonder series. A host of very talented bloggers are participating in this series including Kelly from Studio DIY, Rachel from Swell and Stylish, Dana from Bloom and Inspire, Delia from Delia Creates and Kirby and Alexa from The Short and Sweet of It.
For my take on winter, I’m going rustic. Similar to my approach in THIS project, I’ve been totally inspired by the warm, coziness of a rustic winter (even though I’ve never seen a rustic winter, since I live in Miami, where we have exactly one season called “humid.”)
For my guest post on This Heart Of Mine, I created a papercrafted “Winter in a Box” filled with all sorts of yummy papery goodies. Over here on the homefront, I’m sharing a few ideas of how you can style those goodies along with a quick tutorial on stamping your own buffalo plaid stationery! So before you scroll any further – head over to This Heart Of Mine and see what I came up with…don’t worry….I’ll wait for you to get back.

Ok…welcome back. Did you love it?
Here’s one more peek at the wintery box…
The buffalo plaid stationery may just be my favorite component of this box. I struggled to come up with a strategy that would work for creating a realistic plaid, and finally I succeeded!
- Red Cardstock folded in to A2 sized cards
- Clear & Simple Stamps “Create-a-Plaid” stamp set
- Clear & Simple Stamps Hybrid Ink in Steel Got It, Perfect Little Black Dress and Blanc Check.
- Fun foam scraps
{1} Stamp checkered pattern using thick stripe from stamp set
{2} Cut a small square of fun foam and adhere to an acrylic stamping block
{3} With black ink, stamp the small square at each intersection of the checked pattern. Then stamp thin white lines as shown.
With the other contents of the box, I created this gift bag!
So what’s the verdict? Did I capture rustic winter with paper? Tell me what you think!
You captured Buffalo Plaid perfectly and your gift bags and set are gorgeous! Wonderful job and great tutorial!
As a Vermonter, I say “you done good!” Love how you’re so handy with tools, too– your little sawn branch tags are beauties, as are all the clever elements of your set.

My heavens Amber! I have just now seen this beautiful box you created. I really think you need to go to work for someone like Neiman Marcus designing specialty items. Uh oh!! It would mean even more work, but loads of fun right?
