We have a few more weeks until summer is a thing of the past, so I’m trying to pump out as many summertime crafts as possible! Before we know it, we’ll be fawning over fall leaves and pretty pumpkin patches. Today, though, it’s all about the classic nautical motif of summer. I rarely reach for primary colors, but there is something about the combination of red stripes with bright blue that makes me so happy!
With the help of my Cricut Explore and my DecoArt Americana Paints, I created a super simple nautical tote that will take you through the rest of summer in style. And, of course, I had to add some sparkle with some Cricut Glitter Iron-On Vinyl. Let me show you just how easy this tote is to create!
You’ll need:
- Cricut Glitter Iron-On Vinyl in blue (tip: use the lavender Strong Grip Mat when cutting this material)
- a plain canvas tote
- painter’s tape
- Fabric Medium
- DecoArt Americana Acrylic Craft Paint
STEP ONE:
Use a weeding tool to remove all the excess vinyl from around your anchor image
STEP TWO:
Tape off a striped pattern on the canvas tote bag
STEP THREE:
Mix one part fabric medium with one part acrylic paint, then use a foam brush to apply stripes between the painter’s tape. Next remove the painter’s tape
STEP FOUR:
Allow the paint to dry completely, then use a hot iron…OR the brand new Cricut Easy Press… to apply the glitter iron-on anchor image.
