I know, I know…candles don’t quite fit into the stationery category, but I just could not resist the opportunity to blog about these..

High Society Stationery: DIY Monogrammed Candles | Damask Love Blog{What They Say} This sophisticated scent was inspired by a red silk dress and the intriguing character of pomegranate.

Pomegranate Noir combines the sweet fruity notes of raspberry, plum, pink pepper and pomegranate with patchouli, frankincense and spicy woods to create a scent that’s sensual, totally sophisticated and utterly compelling.

The Pomegranate Noir Luxury Candle envelops a room and lingers for hours to create an ambience of warmth, sophistication and style. It is the ultimate luxury.

{What I Say} Um. Where, oh where do I begin on this one. Let’s start with the obvious. Unless y’all know something that I don’t, candles are basically “smells”, right?  It’s a jar of smells. I mean, I guess they are sorta kinda home decor items as well, but their primary function is to smell good. There has to be a point of diminishing returns when it comes to the cost of smells…even if it is 88 ounces of smells.  There has to be a point beyond which smells can no longer be improved. Maybe, just maybe there is that one smell that wafts around your house causing a genie in a bottle to materialize. Then he can grant you three wishes, the first of which would be a refund of my $425. At this price, anything less than Aladdin 2.0 would be completely unacceptable.

Now let’s talk about this particular scent. They do a pretty bang up job of describing the combination of scents that go into this candle. Anytime you can get some frankincense into the mix, I’m impressed. I just wanna know where the myrrh is. No myrrh? Then we come to this whole idea of an “utterly compelling” candle. Compelling? Dare I say it? A little dramatic, don’t ya think? A compelling candle? Hopefully it’s compelling me to get outta bed and go to work. I’ve got a candle mortgage to pay off.

As always, I’ve gotta project for you that will give you plenty inspiration for creating a high society candle of your own. No frankincense, though.

For these candles, I’m bringing back my love of monograms. It’s crazy how easy it is to create personalized candles of your own! I’ll prove it:

{1} Dauber tools. I used daubers from the Martha Stewart Glass Stenciling Kit. They are great quality and easy to clean.

{2} Martha Stewart glass paint OR multi-surface paint

{3} Stencils. This set is the Martha Stewart Fair Aisle Dots Set

{4} Candle Jar. I used this beautiful candle jar from Specialty Bottle, which comes with a great metal lid.

There are several ways to personalize your candles. For two of my designs, I used dies to create my own stencils from painter’s tape.

{1} Place two pieces of painters tape onto a piece of cardstock, arrange your dies and run through your die-cutting machine. Placing two pieces of tape on the cardstock allows you to easily peel off the top piece of tape.

{2} Clean the glass jar surface with alcohol, then place your painter’s tape stencil onto the jar. Press all of the edges into the jar and use additional pieces of tape cover the rest of your stenciling surface. This will just ensure that you don’t accidentally get paint where you don’t want it. From there, simply use the dauber to apply the paint.

{3} Allow your finished design to dry. It will take a full 21 days to cure, but it should be dry to the touch and ready to fill with wax within 20 minutes.

{4} For another design, I combined stencils from the Martha Stewart kit with a handmade monogram stencil.

  1. Amazing – is all I am going to say about this particular post. nah…I think I’ll add something else 🙂

My sister loves Jo Malone, and wears this particular brand as perfume – it is a very pretty scent but not for the hefty price tag!
It was great to see you feature this brand tho’ 🙂

  2. I love Jo Malone!! It is pretty pricey though. Good thing my friend worked there and got stuff for free. Lol. Love your candles and the whole monogram series. Thanks for the inspiration!!

  3. Girl you got it going on. You have the best links to websites – love that, you have the best ideas – got to love that. I could totally be your BFF – if only we lived closer and you already have a ton of BFF’s!

  4. Who in the world can afford that candle? I don’t care what it’s made of! Thanks for the fun ideas & particularly the cool painter’s tape stencil. Loving your monogram features. Thanks!

  5. hello!!
I love this wonderful idea, but i dont have a die cutting machine!! What kind is yours, or what do you recommend?
    Thx!

    1. You can get a die cutting machine for very reasonable prices! I’d suggest getting a Cuttlebug. It’s compact and inexpensive and perfect for getting started with die cutting! You’ll love it!

  6. I love Jo Malone fragrances – but holy cow at a $425 candle! That’s redic!! Your version is most lovely. Another option besides paint or ink is etching cream. I learned to use that stuff from Martha, too.

    1. I totally want to use some etching cream! They were sold out when I went to Michael’s so I couldn’t get any. It’s definitely on my to-do list!

  7. You, dear girl are TOO funny. Obviously, these are the type of people who are complaining about FOUR dollar a gallon gas if they are willing to pay that much an ounce for a candle. It better come with someone to clean my house for that.
