I went to college in Durham, North Carolina and then went to graduate school in Nashville, Tennessee. I know a thing or two about southern sass and I can call up a pretty good southern drawl without too much difficulty. “Y’all” is part of my daily vernacular and I grew up with a grandmother who regularly used the phrase “Bless Your Heart”…because everyone knows that you can gossip about anyone, as long as you follow up your comments with “Bless Her Heart.” It’s a southern fact.

Today’s project is a card set that speaks to every bit of my southern soul. Each of the sentiments is from Amuse Studio’s Southern Sass stamp set. So many cute sayings!

The floral pattern and color scheme of this card set were inspired by THIS wedding stationery suite. I love the use of black and white.

To add a strong dose of southern hospitality, I lined the inside of each card with patterned paper. This is a great way to use your patterned paper, and give an unexpected pop of color to the interior of your cards.

{1} Start with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of cardstock and a piece of patterned paper that is slightly larger than the cardstock. Apply the glue stick to the ENTIRE piece of cardstock, making sure you reach all the edges and corners. Adhere the patterned paper to the cardstock.

{2} Use your paper trimmer (or scissors) to trim off the excess patterned paper. By doing this, you can ensure that the entire piece of cardstock is covered with patterned paper and they appear to be one sheet of paper.

{3} Score the card after both papers are adhered together.

{4} Punch one edge of the card.

  1. Super cute, Amber! I can not wait to try out that technique in my craft room!

One question – can you tell me how you made the gingham bow seals? I am sure that is a xyron sticker maker, but is the bow a punch or a die? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Allison! you are spot on! I did use a Xyron sticker maker. The punch is a super old bow punch by Martha Stewart. You may be able to track it down somewhere!

  2. Adorable set Amber! TFS. Cath at Moxie Fab has a challenge “Set of Cards” I think it would be great if you want to submit this.

  3. I love how you used the A Muse Studio Southern Sass stamp set. The sentiments in this set crack me up and I use them more than I even expected to. Thanks for sharing your inspiring ideas.

  4. I love making my own personalized stationary and this DIY is such a great idea! I am definitely going to make a few thank you cards by following this tutorial.

  5. Amber, you are crazy talented. I must get that PTI stamp set, both of them. I primarily buy PTI, just dont have those two sets, you have completely sold me on them. I live in TN so I completely got all of your comments regarding the south, so funny about the “bless your heart” b/c really it is true.
Why, oh why are you not on the PTI design team??!! Nicole needs to snap you up b/c you are amazing. You can do anything, including fabulous jewerly!! Thank you for sharing your talent, idea’s, time and energy. I check in with you everyday even though I do not comment every day. I am a big fan of yours. Have a great weekend.

  6. I am so in love with this set of cards, AND of the stamps of Amuse studio.
But there is a problem: They do not ship to the Netherlands! They do not even ship to an adress in the US with a billing adress somewere else, so….thats what made me sad….

  7. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog. This one had me laughing my head off at 2 AM this morning!

  8. Hey Amber! Thanks for linking this up to the Card Set Challenge in the Moxie Fab World! I’m so glad you joined in on all the fun! 🙂

  9. Hi Amber! I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your talent and humor. Having lived in TN for a while, “Give me some sugar” is still a favorite. I really look forward to your emails.

  10. Hi, these are beautiful cards…but I seem to have missed something. I understand gluing the paper to the cardstock, and punching the edge. Does that paper-covered side become the interior of the card? If so, how did you get the flowers on the front of the card? did you stamp them or is that another decorative paper attached to the other side of the white cardstock you started with? Sorry to be dense, but I am new to card-making. Thanks!

  11. I love your Bless your heart card but where my husband comes from the saying is “Bless your pea pickin heart” I was from Ohio and my husband is from the mountains of Tennessee and I heard that saying so much when we were first married it wasn’t funny
