I could probably open up a bookstore with all the notebooks I’ve been making lately…and there are still a few more projects to come! Today’s Style Watch is a “special edition” extension of Bookbinding University, and I think you’re gonna like what you see.

Before today’s post, each Bookbinding University lesson have focused on stitching techniques. Today’s project does not require any stitching at all, which means you can mass produce these notebooks in no time at all! Perfect binding is a simple technique that uses PVA glue (or Elmer’s white glue) to bind the spine of your text block. Follow along in this quick video tutorial as I show you exactly how to create the text block and cover in just a manner of minutes.

  1. An awesome tutorial, Amber! Just one question: when adhering the inside of the cover spine to the text block, do you think a strip of scor tape would work as good as the glue? Thanks! 🙂

    1. Hmmmm…now I haven’t tried it BUT my guess is that glue is probably best. Since you created the spine with glue, I am not totally sure that the scor tape will adhere well to that dried glue on the spine. Make sense? You could definitely give it try though! Since these are so easy to make, there’s not much risk if it doesn’t work.

      1. Wonderful, thanks! I’ll try it and let you know if it works in case there are more crafters out there that are as alergic to liquid stuff in the craftroon as I am, ha!

  2. Love, love, love the packaging idea on these. I have accumulated all of the supplies needed to make the journals we did in Damask Love Live in Berkeley. I’m going to use them for gifts. I think I’ll be adding this packaging idea too. Just awesome! Thanks, Amber!

  3. Amber, I don’t comment near enough! I love ALL of your projects. They are all so beautiful and professional looking. Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. Wow I’m loving this tutorial!! Too bad that my semester has already started but I’d love to make a travel journal for my end for year trip!! Saves so much money than buying a travel journal xDD

  5. Wow, great tutorial and it looks doable for the tentative but eager crafter that I am.

    Your work is beautiful.

  6. Love this series on notebook making! On this one, is there a specific number of pages? I’m guessing smaller would be better. How many pages in your example? Thanks.

  7. I am so glad that I discovered your blog through the Alt Summit. T absolutely love notebooks. I can’t tell you how many Moleskines I have. I can’t wait to try to make this. Now I just need to figure out how to do a photo cover. I’m thinking maybe I will print the image on cardstock. Really great tutorial!

  8. This is a wonderful tutorial and awesome book. I have such a huge love for notebooks and can’t wait to create one of yours. You make such pretty things!

  9. These are lovely and such a great tutorial! Would you mind sharing the size you cut the papers and the cover? Also do you have a tutorial on the packaging box I missed? Going to make these for a friends 40th Birthday.
    Thanks!

  10. These are so awesome – as a college student, I don’t have a lot of cash to spend on gifts for my friends but I love to craft and it helps me decompress. Like Jenny, I was wondering about the packaging and whether or not you have shared (or would be willing to share) a tutorial on how to make it! I thought about buying a box and deconstructing it to use as a template, but I haven’t found one that fits my size needs. Thanks!

  11. I loved making this notebook! I almost never use up all my notebook paper, so this was a great way to repurpose my leftovers. Instead of covering the entire notebook with patterned paper, I decided to leave the spine solid, and I love how it turned out! (Pictures in the link.)

  12. Love your tutorial. What kind of paper do you recommend? I’d like to make this with a lined paper as well as blank, but I cannot seem to find a source for that.

  13. I really like the tutorial, it is easy to follow. I have a question: do you think this kind of binding would work equally well with signatures?

  14. I am sure that this is a very useful thing for both schoolchildren and students, and before the new academic year, I recommend to all of you go to EssayServiceScanner and study the useful Academized review 2021, save this source for the future and, if necessary, check the most current information about this written service, which is in demand among the student and is always help effectivelly.

  15. Cool. Everything is described in detail and very clearly. At school, I also liked to do such things with my own hands when I had a lot of time. In college, studies no longer left the opportunity to be creative, in all my free time I spent searching for the dissertation help uk in order to get admission to the exam. Oh how I miss school.

  16. If you think the practice of hiring an essay writer is unethical, then you are at a loss. In truth, it can improve their academic skills. Experts are very helpful and efficient in helping students with their academic assignments

  17. I think that https://www.examcollection.us/ is crucial for graduating from any university. Every student should know how to write and I think you should be able to do it, too. I would recommend you to take some extra classes or enroll in additional course.
